DEMAND Design & Manufacture for Disability
DEMAND is a charity based in Enfield with a catalogue of 10 products constantly on sale from elite level Boccia equipment to the world’s most adjustable art easel. Alongside these products, the charity makes bespoke products and alterations to meet individual’s needs through client enquiries.
During my time at DEMAND I mainly focused on production and how we could improve the efficiency of making our products through various jigs and new processes being used. This along with other work from researching into enquiries to programming for our CNC cuts, I worked in every part of the design process.
Projects
Boccia Ramp Tape Applicator JIG
Tasked to create a reliable way of applying double sided and metal tape to a curved acrylic sheet, a two part CNC plywood jig and applicator were made.
Requirements:
Keep the curved nature of the acrylic sheet
Easy to use and repeatable action needed
Applies tape smoothly with no air bubbles
Jig does not scratch of damage the acrylic
The solution
CNC plywood jig and 3D printed applicator that work together
Two part plywood jig clamps acrylic sheet into exact curve wanted
3D printed tape applicator utilises persons leverage to apply tape along the acrylic sheet smoothly
To ensure safety for this little person’s walker simple 3D printed anti tippers were made to stop the walker falling over.
Walker Anti Tipper
Requirements:
Does not increase the width of the walker
Does not affect the walking motion of the little person
Anti tippers allow for clearance for carpets and changing surfaces
Anti tippers are non abrasive and look a part of the whole walking frame
The solution
3D printed anti tippers
Uses a locking nut and the walkers bolt holes to keep anti tippers secure.
Anti tippers sit 10mm of the floor allowing for easy rotation of the walker and reduces the chances of it being caught on something.

Full production runs of the intricate art easel were made, ensuring finishing and assembling all products to high standard.
